There are a number of ways that heat can be lost in our homes which will cost us money. It is actually thought that most of us are wasting money on heating our homes because most of the heat is lost. Below are five of the main causes why heat is lost in the home along with some great tips for heat recovery.
- Doors and windows that are not sealed properly are probably the biggest cause of heat loss in the home. Check for draughts and if you can afford to get your windows and doors replaced then do this. Otherwise think about buying something to seal these draughts.
- A heating system that is the wrong size for the home can mean that you are losing heat. Think about getting your home measured for the correct size of heating system. Alternatively, use convector heaters to heat the rooms you are using instead of using your central heating system until you can afford to have it replaced.
- Holes in the outer walls of the house can also cause heat to be lost from the home. You need to find out where the draughts are coming into the house and seal them up. You can buy sealant from your local DIY store.
- Attics are where most of the heat is lost in a home. This is something that you can fix by ensuring you get it insulated properly.
- Heating system pipes may not be sealed water tight like water pipes will be and this means that air can be leaking into the walls instead of into your home. Get a technician to check this for you and repair any leaks.
